Hints & Tips
Keep Boiled Eggs from Cracking
To keep eggs from cracking while boiling, add a teaspoon or two of vinegar to the water. It keeps them from cracking, and doesn't add any flavor to the eggs.

Get the Most Juice from Lemons or Limes
To get the most juice from lemons or limes, bring them to room temperature and roll them under your palm on top of the counter or table before squeezing.

Easy Fill Deviled Eggs
Create less mess, and fill the eggs more easily by putting the yolks, mayonnaise & other ingredients into a plastic zipper bag. Mash it all together, then snip one corner off the bag to easily squeeze the filling into egg whites. When you're finished, you can just toss the bag in the trash - no icky mess!

Easier Cleaning Those Burnt-on Messes
To more easily remove burnt-on food from a skillet, just add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover the bottom of the skillet, and bring to a boil on top of the stove. The burnt-on mess should come right off.

Freezing Green Peppers
Green peppers may be frozen without blanching in an airtight container for later use in hot dishes or casseroles.

Keep Your Cooler Fresh
To keep your cooler fresh, and free from odors, fill it with crumbled newspapers. When you need to use the cooler, discard the newspapers. Fill it again with more after using (be sure to let it dry out first.)

Remove Chewing Gum from Hair or Carpet
Rubbing stuck-on chewing gum with an ice cube will help it come off more easily.

OOPS! Too Much Salt!
If you accidently over-salt a recipe while its still cooking, add in a peeled potato to help absorb some of the excess salt.

Remove Food Stains from your Fingers
Easily remove food stains from your fingers by rubbing a peeled, raw piece of potato on them. Rinse with water, and the stains should be gone.

Is That Egg Fresh?
To determine whether an egg is fresh or not, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh. If it rises to the surface, throw it away.

Freshen Your Microwave
To freshen a microwave, combine 1 cup water, the juice of 1/2 lemon and the rind, and 5-6 cloves. Microwave on high for 5 minutes.

Growing Potatoes in your Pantry?
To keep your potatoes from budding out, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

Have the kids been coloring on the wall?
Apply toothpaste to crayon marks and let set about 15 minutes. It will then wipe off easily with a damp cloth.

Perfectly Shaped Pancakes
If your pancakes are looking a little lopsided, you can use a baster to squeeze the batter onto the griddle. Perfectly shaped pancakes, every time!

Keep Your Celery Fresh
Celery wrapped in alumnium foil and stored in the refrigerator will stay fresh much longer.

Don't Waste Bread Heels
Use the heels from your loaves of bread to make bread crumbs with your food processor. Store them in the refrigerator in a covered/sealed plastic or glass container. This eliminates waste, and keeps bread crumbs handy for those recipes!

Baking in Glass
When you use a glass pan for baking, it is a good idea to reduce the baking temperature by 25 degrees.

Easy Split Biscuits
Biscuits will be easier to split open if you roll the dough thin and fold it over once before cutting out biscuits. This also makes them nice and crisp on the outside and flaky in the center.

Fresh Bread Longer
Keep bread fresher longer by placing a rib of celery in the bag.

Keep Air Bubbles out of your Cakes
When you've finished mixing cake batter, run a knife through to remove air bubbles.

Better Baking Results
You'll achieve better results when baking if you let milk, eggs, and butter reach room temperature before mixing.

No Clogging Mixer Blades
If you seem to have trouble with your mixer blades clogging up while creaming shortening or butter, try running hot water over them before you start. The hot blades will prevent clogging problems.

Nice and Crispy French Toast
If you add a dash of cornstarch to the egg mixture when making French toast, it will come out nice and crispy!

Easy Baking Pan Greasers
Save the wrappers from butter and margarine in your freezer. When you need to grease a baking pan, just pull one out of the freezer, and wipe it in the pan.

Longer Lasting Olive Oil
You can lengthen the life of olive oil by adding a cube of sugar to the bottle.

Leftover Pancakes
When you have leftover pancakes, freeze them between sheets of waxed paper. Then, for a quick breakfast, you can re-heat them in the toaster or microwave. This also works well with waffles.

No-Stick Pasta
To prevent pasta from sticking, bring the water to a boil, add pasta and stir a minute until it returns to a boil. Cover and remove from heat. Let stand 10 to 12 minutes - NO PEEKING! Your pasta will be perfectly done, and not sticky.

Perfect Boiled Eggs
To make perfectly hard-boiled eggs, place eggs in pot and cover with water. Bring to boil, cover and remove from heat. Let stand 20 minutes. Eggs are perfectly hard-boiled, and easier to peel.

The Secret of Fluffy Rice
When the rice is done, remove the lid and cover the pot with two layers of paper toweling. Cover with a tight-fitting lid and let stand from 5 to 30 minutes until you are ready to serve it. Fluff with a fork to separate grains of rice.

Softer Brown Sugar
Add a slice of soft bread to a package of rock-hard brown sugar. Close the bag tightly, and in a few hours the sugar will be soft again.
